Across Kintla Lake into the Akamina – Kishinena
Location Origin Story
Flying above Parke Ridge, this is the very north end of the Livingston Range, on the northwestern side of Glacier National Park. In the foreground, Kintla Lake lies below Starvation Ridge which grows into Boundary Mountain along the far right side of this image. Directly beyond Starvation ridge is the border between Montana and Canada, and all we see above the ridge is the Akamina – Kishinena Provincial Park.
The tall peaks in the center of the mountains are called Starvation Peak, and King Edwards Peak. To the left of center, we see Miskwasini Peak and Kenow Mountain, and the tall mountain on the far right side is Long Knife Peak which sits atop Boundary Mountain.
About This Photograph
This sublime scene of the mountains in the Akamina – Kishinena was filmed by Zedekiah from his bush plane on an early May morning while flying and exploring the northwestern side of Glacier National Park in the far north end of the North Fork Valley on the border with Canada.
Image Rarity
The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera. It was taken during prime atmospheric conditions that provided a combination of low-hanging cumulus clouds adding a wonderful dimensional component to the visual composition.
Zedekiah used the manner in which these clouds covered the horizon as a backdrop, a scene that is utterly impossible to predict, timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.
Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
