Alpenglow Shroud Upon Wolfgun Mountain

Location Origin Story

On an early fall afternoon, cast moving storms push clouds up against the mountains of the Livingston Range on the west side of Glacier National Park. The clouds combine with evaporating moisture from early snows on the sunlight-heated rocks of Wolfgun Mountain causing an unusual atmospheric effect in which the clouds seem to be attached to the mountains.

Even with the winds pushing the storefront over the Livingston Range, the clouds stay put, glowing a vibrant spectrum of amber colors as a sliver of sunlight horizontally crosses the North Fork Valley and illuminates these spectacular mountains.

About This Photograph

This beautiful spring scene was photographed in the late evening during the month of June while Zedekiah was hiking and exploring the area west of the North Fork of the Flathead River on Winona Ridge in the Coal Creek State Park. This is on the east side of the Whitefish Range.

The image is taken on the ground in a place others can hike to, meaning it is not that difficult for others to take a similar photograph.

The rarity of this image comes from the volumetric texturization for micro shadowing, therefore it is rare due to its printing process.
