Angel Wings on Harrison Lake

Location Origin Story

Harrison Lake is one of the most obscure lakes in Glacier National Park. Very rarely visited, this beautiful body of azure and turquoise blue water is full of snowmelt from Harrison Glacier high up at the end of this valley in the distance. To the right side of the valley towering above the end of the lake is Blackfoot Mountain whose snow-covered cliffs are reflecting off the surface of the lake.

Storm clouds are parting right above the lake, with sunlight streaming down across the lake, creating angel wings on both sides of the lake, running up the respective mountainsides. The sunlight angel wings combine with the shape of the lake to create the somewhat abstract shape of a Peace Dove.

A fortuitous circumstance of atmospheric conditions, wind, and timing, create this inspirational vision.

About This Photograph

This unique mountainous scene was photographed in the early morning during the month of May while Zedekiah was flying and exploring the Lewis Range in Glacier National Park in the John F Stevens Valley along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River in the Theodore Roosevelt Pass.

Image Rarity

The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera.

Zedekiah used the combination of moving clouds as a backdrop, and the sunlight breaking through the clouds to cast a shape for effect.

Timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.

This image has a Cinematic Provenance Film showing the origin of this photographic event, a very rare component.

Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
