Bitterroot Range in the Beaverhead Mountains

Above Big Hole Valley, the Bitterroot Range of the Beaverhead Mountains spans the horizon. Center Mountain, Monument Peak, Freeman Peak, Homer Youngs Peak, Copperhead Peak, Ajax Peak, and Squaw Mountain sit atop the range from left to right. The Big Hole River was known by the First Nations Salish as Skwumcné Sewlkws, meaning “waters of the pocket gopher” and is historically popular for fly-fishing. This valley is also the location of the Big Hole National Battlefield.
