Location Origin Story

Flying down the North Fork Valley, following the Flathead River’s north fork as it flows towards Flathead Lake 80 miles to the south, in front of us. We are looking south across the North Fork Valley to the distant pinnacled peak of Mount Saint Nicholas in the Lewis Range.

To the right along the horizon are Apgar Mountain and Winona Ridge. To the left are mountains from the Lewis Range and the Livingston Range. The western boundary of Glacier National Park runs down the left side of the Flathead River in this delightful vision of Montana wilderness.

About This Photograph

This Rare scene of the North Fork Valley was filmed by Zedekiah from his bush plane on a beautiful September afternoon while flying and exploring the North Fork Valley area East of Glacier National Park.

Image Rarity

The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera. It was taken in inclement atmospheric conditions with a combination of low-hanging cumulus clouds rapidly moving storm front that was difficult to maneuver around.

Zedekiah used the manner in which these clouds covered the horizon as a backdrop, a scene that is utterly impossible to predict, timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.

Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
