Location Origin Story

These venerable mountains are held in sacred reverence by the First Nations Blackfeet and many other northwestern plains and prairies Tribes back through time. On the left is Yellow Mountain, and on the right is Chief Mountain. Directly to the left of Ninaiistako are Ninaki, Papoose, and Gable Mountains.

This towering peak is a sacred mountain to First Nations tribes. The Blackfeet people call the mountain “Nínaiistáko”. Tribal peoples travel from all across the North American Continent to hold sacred sweetgrass ceremonies, place prayer flags and conduct other religious rites at its base, or climb to the top of the mountain for very special ceremonies.

About This Photograph

This stunning scene was filmed by Zedekiah while hiking and exploring the eastern edge of Glacier National Park on the boundary with the Blackfeet Reservation. It is easy to see how these mountains played a profound role in Blackfeet traditions through time.
