Location Origin Story

Columbia Mountain wears an early spring veil of storm clouds creating a multi-layered visual composition. The midday sun sits high above the clouds, trying to overcome the filtering, lighting various layers at different altitudes, further adding to the complex visual asymmetry.

Columbia Mountain sits at the southern end of the Swan Mountain Range and forms the south side of Bad Rock Pass.

About This Photograph

This dramatic scene was created while exploring the northeastern part of the Flathead Valley in the Bad Rock area during a fast-moving storm on a late spring day.
