Location Origin Story

On the north side of the Grand Canyon National Park is this view of Sunshine Point on the Kanab Plateau. This is just north of the Colorado River above the Kanab Rapids in the Grand Canyon National Park. To the left is the Kabab Creek Wilderness and across the Jumpup Canyon valley lies Fishtail Mesa and Great Thumb Mesa.

This remote location sits on the Kanab Plateau north of the boundary to the Grand Canyon National Park. On the distant horizon is the snowcapped Humphreys Peak which sits next to Flagstaff Arizona.

About This Photograph

This lush colorful scene across the canyons was photographed in the late afternoon during the month of December while Zedekiah was flying and exploring the Kanab Plateau north of the Grand Canyon National Monument.

Image Rarity

The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera.

Skirting storm clouds Zedekiah used the layers of low hanging cumulus clouds as a dramatic backdrop.

Timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.

Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
