Trout Lake Down in the Valley

Location Origin Story

Soaring above the eastern side of the Livingston Range in the Rocky Mountains of Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana, we see over the sharp arete on the backside of Heavens Peak on the left side of the image with McPartland Mountain, Mount Vaught, and Stanton Mountain. Down in the valley below, Camas Creek brings snowmelt through Arrow Lake, then Trout Lake and Rogers Lake, flowing further to reach the Flathead River North Fork.

On the right side of the image is Rogers Peak and Camas Ridge, and in the distance on the horizon sits the snow-covered peaks of Apgar Mountain and the Whitefish Range.  To read more about this unusual formation visit this story about Flattop Mountain on Where Eagles Fly.

About This Photograph

This grand scene was filmed by Zedekiah while exploring the Continental Divide through the center of Glacier National Park on a beautiful May morning.

Image Rarity

The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera.

Zedekiah used the manner in which these clouds shrouded the mountains as a backdrop, plus the ending light of the evening as a filtering effect, where timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.

Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
