Truchas Peak

Location Origin Story

Truchas Peak on the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range in the Rocky Mountains of Northern New Mexico. This mountain sits 13,000 feet above the Rio Grande and from here you can look north onto Taos. New Mexico. The name of the peak is from the Spanish word for “trout” (plural).

The entire mountain is a small north-south trending massif with four identifiable summits, North Truchas Peak, Middle Truchas Peak, and South Truchas Peak.

About This Photograph

This inspirational sunrise was photographed in the early morning during the month of September while Zedekiah was flying and exploring the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico into the Sangre de Cristo Range.

Image Rarity

The image was taken from a moving aircraft, as Zedekiah piloted the aircraft while simultaneously operating the camera.

Zedekiah climbed through the storm to reach an altitude with calm enough winds to be able to film this scene, which lasted a few minutes only.

Timing and being in the place-in-space for this scene to reveal itself was crucial to this image composition.

Lastly, it is impossible to simply walk up a trail and take the same photograph again. This image was very difficult to create, and is truly one-of-a-kind, therefore making it extremely rare.
